I had a father whose father was not a dad figure in his life. Thus he had no example growing up of what it is to have a dad in your life. As a result my dad, while he tried at times, struggled being a dad. I strived, and still do, to be the dad I didn't have all the time. I made many mistakes but I made a conscience effort.
Our kids need us, as dads, to invest our time, resources, emotions and attention to them. They need to see our successes. They need to see our failures. They need us to be real, be vulnerable. They need us to own our mistakes in parenting.
